About the Author
Dr. George L Nagy is a professor of Modern Languages and Economics at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY. He has published several bilingual dictionaries during the last ten years. His English-Hungarian and Hungarian-English Dictionaries of Idioms (Akademiai Kiado, Budapest) received the Standard of Excellece Award of the Academy in 2005. Dr. Nagy holds a Ph.D. in German, and M.A. degrees in Russian and Economics.

A Book Worthy of Serious Consideration

I have more than 60 reference books. Nagy's stands out for several reasons: The very concept is original and serves as a useful tool(refreshing, after seeing so much of basically 'more of the same'). And unlike most standards, it is thought provoking - which helps the writer who is still stuck in the mud even after finding the word or phrase he originally sought. A must have for the serious wordsmith!

My best Christmas present

I have received the Thesaurus as a Christmas gift, and I am very pleased with it. I have never realized that a dictionary could be so entertaining. This book will be useful for native speakers (such as myself), and English learners alike.
The things I like about this book are:
1. Thoroughness is selecting the best idioms. (Excluding useless ones.)
2. Excellent cross-referencing. (Giving new examples and synonymous phrases even in cross-referenced entries).
3. Beautiful, hard cover, de luxe edition. (This is a book I will keep in my library as long as I live.)
4. Easy-to-read, clear, introduction to phraseology. (Just the right length.)
5. Clear explanations and well-selected synonyms.
6. Rare limited edition. (Not a mass-produced item.)

Outstanding!!!

Dr. Nagy's Thesaurus of English Idioms is outstanding. It is extremely user-friendly as each entry is crossed referenced. He goes beyond a standard explantion and gives numerous examples of each entry. Moreover, he provides example sentences with each entry in the sentence to assit the reader in understanding the context. Although English is my frist language, it has certainly helped me in explanding my vocabulary. I highly recommend this book!
