Give a new writer a shot

First, for full disclosure, I must tell you that I received a copy free in exchange for my honest review. Now that that is out of the way...

Aside from some spelling and fiction issues, I was pleasantly surprised by the story. The beginning off the book dragged a little as the author have us background information and set up the story. The main character, Aurora Contantine is a departure from your typical thriller\suspence -type novels, which is not a bad thing. The writing is a little stilted while the author describes Aurora. Some of the explaining could have been removed by letting Aurora show us who she is.

The story really picks up speed about halfway through and from there, breezes through to the finish. The writing got much better as well. It looks as if Mr. Vermette was so concerned about building the background, characters, and storyline in the beginning, that he forgot the flow. Once the real action started, out appeared as if Mr. Vermette could not get the words on paper quick enough, which was a good thing because it made the writing flour better. He wasn't worried about all the tiny details that don't really matter. He was now concentrating on the action and the details that did matter. There were a few cliches, but they didn't ruin the story.

Overall, this was a good, quick read from an author who shows a lot of potential. Can't wait for the second, rumored to be out in June.

Outstanding plot, characters and twists

This was an outstanding book for a reader of suspenseful novels like myself. I enjoy reading books lesser known authors they offer something that the more well known authors do not. They bring fresh characters, character development and imagination to the literary world.

I think anyone would enjoy this book and the characters that are evolving. I look forward to the next book in the series and think AL J. Vermette has a incredible foot in this door!

About the Author
Stephen Eckett read mathematics at London University and then joined Baring Securities on the Japanese equities and warrants desk. After setting up a futures operation for Barings in Hong Kong, he joined the capital markets division of Bankers Trust and organized the first listing of an index warrant in Asia. He then moved to Tokyo to set up a derivatives desk for S.G Warburg Securities. In 1993 he founded Numa Financial Systems Ltd, a training and systems consultancy company specialising in derivatives.

Excellent Book on Stock Market Patterns and Cycles

This almanac is a comprehensive source of trading and investing ideas for self-directed traders, investors and advisors. Previous editions since 2004 were known as the UK Stock Market Almanac. Since stock price movements are not random, it pays to look for any discernible patterns, trends and seasonality to assist in the timing of market entry and exit. The research and analysis provided in this almanac can provide guidance in improving the odds of successful investing. The first almanac edition was published in 2004, and has been updated since then, usually annually. There is a free E-book download available for buyers of the book, as well as a supporting website.

The key question is whether or not there are discernible market patterns that can be exploited. That is what this almanac is all about and the answer is “YES”. It is a treasure trove of time-tested strategies and seasonal tendencies that can be used to increase your odds of stock market success. This edition includes 17 new strategies and studies such as the world’s simplest trading system, sell in May sector strategy, solar eclipse, and FOMC cycle. There are also updates to 33 strategies presented in earlier almanac editions including the bounce back portfolio, the FTSE/S&P500 switching strategy, and quarterly sector momentum strategy.

The Almanac is divided into three parts: Diary, Statistics, and Reference material. The first part is the Diary which is the core of the almanac and contains 107 pages covering the year in weekly two-page format. One page shows days of the week with the daily performance of the FTSE 100 and 250, S&P 500 and Nikkei with an overall market direction for that day. Also, there are notable social and sporting events and holidays listed by day. Moreover there is a list of companies with their approximate announcement dates for earnings. The opposite page provides an interesting article or commentary on the stock market, many related to seasonality and momentum.

The second part is the Statistics section encompassing 73 pages. Here seasonality, market anomalies and interesting data on indices, sectors and companies is reviewed. For example, seasonality analysis of historical market performance for every day and week of the year is given.

There is also aggregate weekly and daily UK index performance. For example, the performance of the FTSE 100 from 1980 through August 2016 is provided in table format. Additionally, the FTSE 250 Index performance is thoroughly covered.

Moreover, the 40 UK London Stock Market ETFs volume leaders is shown and ranked by correlation with the FTSE 100 Index. Also there is useful data on the FTSE 350 2004-2013 yearly sector performance and also quarterly performance from 2005-2015 for each quarter. Another table illustrates the top company rankings with 22 different criteria for FTSE 350, AIM and Investment Trusts.

There are also long-term statistics on correlation of UK and US markets and international markets. The Manager's Diary: Thinking Outside the Cubicle is an insightful read which should be on every Manager's Bookshelf. If your organization uses Tablets or Notebooks, make sure those machines do not leave the office without this book downloaded and easily desktop reference accessible. My copy stays right with my Windows 8.1 Tablet's Kindle App always.

Filled with tips, suggestions, and outstanding quotes from principal centered leadership experts, every page will bring your company's Managers to their next higher level.

Want to make positive change in your organization? Then buy this book. By using manageable short chapters centered around key organizational points Morrissey gives you "take home value" NOW. No wading through endless text waiting for the proverbial punch line, each chapter is a tangible shift for an organization. If a particular chapter doesn't happen to apply to your business or employer, just go to the next one - it probably will. It's a huge pet peave when authors blather on endlessly to impress you with their amazing thinking or accomplishments, forcing you to mine for the actual gold in the book (if it's even there). This book does none of that, and I am thankful to the author for not wasting my limited time. Excellent return on invested time and money. Bravo!

About the Author

Harjit Singh earned his MBA from University of Texas and his master’s degree in Computer Engineering from California State University, Sacramento. He is a Certified Scrum Master, Lean Six Sigma professional, and holds PMP (Project Management Professional) credentials. He has more than 25 years’ experience in the private and public sector as an engineer, project manager, and educator. Currently, he is working as a data processing manager III at the State of California. In addition, he is also a visiting professor at Keller Graduate School of Management, DeVry University where he teaches project management and business management courses. Prior to this, he worked at Hewlett-Packard Company for 15 years as a systems software engineer and technical project manager. He is also a former member of the Board of Directors for the Sacramento Valley Chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI) where he served in the capacity of CIO and vice president of relations and marketing.

A "BIBLE" TO A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS

I have a Business Management degree and concentrated in strategic management. I wish I had this book as a reference book while I was in college. Being involved in numerous projects, I have seen too many projects went sour due to inappropriate human resource management on the projects. This book is simply a guidance to successful projects. It clearly demonstrates the essential elements for any size of project and teaches you how to manage and distribute the manpower for your project. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who is running his/her own business, leading a project, or a student working on a business degree.
