I used to work in a library. I checked out several books dealing with cleaning my home with a "green" solution. This was the book I picked for me. I now buy it as a wedding gift or home warming gift for friends. It has so many quick, tricks. It also gives good advice on how to handle different situations that come up through out having a home.

I spent a few days with this book trying to find some ideas and inspiration on home organization. The title is very misleading...if you're looking for home remedies, natural cleaning compounds and suggestions on how to "save money" and the environment by buying new appliances then 99% of this book is what you want. Yu'd be better off reading the Foxfire books though.

It was a total waste of time, fortunately just a library loan though and not a purchase.

Not just Bad, Disgusting

Without one word about how to condition a dog to understand a command, Edwards tells his readers to give the command, and if the dog doesn't do it, use the whip. What?

I bought this book because it had a chapter about using a dog whistle. If the reviews of people shopping for dog whistles are any indication, dog whistles are an idiot magnet anyway. "I bought this to shut up my neighbor's dog, and it keeps on howling." "I blow this thing over and over, and my dog won't come." With "training" guides like this there will still be dogs raised without benefit of the amazing (and scientifically sound) improvements in understanding animal behavior.

Please buy a book about clicker training. Owners can easily learn how to teach their dogs to understand words. But it is the owner who must learn before holding the poor dog accountable for something he can't possibly understand. If, after reading any of the very fine books about conditioning behavior with positive reinforcement, a dog owner can't figure out how to shape hunting behaviors without punishment, the poor dog shouldn't be expected to understand either.

For clicker training try Karen Pryor, Kyra Sundance, Patricia McConnell, Phd.

For learning to read your dog's body language in case you mistakenly believe your dog is just fine with rough handling, try Turid Rugaas.

If you don't care for clickers, try Ian Dunbar.

Not bad very basic. It is simple to.understand and perfect for someone considering a hound who maybe doesn't have any experience do not use this book alone but a good start

About the Author
Ming Zhang was born in Shanghai, China. He received the MS degree in information processing and PhD degree in the research area of computer vision from East China Normal University, Shanghai, China, in 1982 and 1989, respectively. He held Postdoctoral Fellowships in artificial neural networks with the Chinese Academy of the Sciences in 1989 and the USA National Research Council in 1991. He was a face recognition airport security system project manager and PhD co-supervisor at the University of Wollongong, Australia in 1992. Since 1994, he was a lecturer at the Monash University, Australia, with a research area of artificial neural network financial information system. From 1995 to 1999, he was a senior lecturer and PhD supervisor at the University of Western Sydney, Australia, with the research interest of artificial neural networks. He also held Senior Research Associate Fellowship in artificial neural networks with the USA National Research Council in 1999. He is currently a Full Professor and graduate student supervisor in computer science at the Christopher Newport University, VA, USA. With more than 100 papers published, his current research includes artificial neural network models for face recognition, weather forecasting, financial data simulation, and management.
