There are a few mug cake cookbooks on the market right now. The reason I chose this one was because the recipes were simpler than others (no butter or eggs). I tried the chocolate mug cake in the book preview and it was delicious! It tasted more like a brownie than a chocolate cake but tasty nonetheless. Since I don't like my cakes too sweet, I modified the recipe simply by adding less chocolate.

If you go on Kirbie's Cravings (author's blog), you can check out a bunch of her other mug cake recipes if you're still on the fence about purchasing this. Lots of easy recipes with pretty pictures; I spent hours sifting through her posts! I can tell the author has put a lot of thought into creating the recipes for both her blog and this cookbook so I'm always happy to support such commitment.

The book is flexibound so it's paperback, but it's of very high quality. The flexibound also means that you can lay the book down flat and refer back to it when you're baking. The pages are colorful and include lots of high resolution photos. I can't wait to start making more mug cakes, especially the savory ones!

Deliciously comprehensive

My wife bought this book and yesterday we enjoyed our first mug cake, chocolate Nutella brownie! As promised, it took less than five minutes to make and it was amazing. Can't wait to try more! We also have two small kids, and many of these recipes are perfect because they're fast, a five year old can do much of the work, and they don't make a crazy amount (sometimes when our daughter wants to bake, we have 58 cookies too many).

Love the different sections in the book - the recipes go way beyond the recipes available online: 21 and over mug cakes, savory mug cakes, breakfast mug cakes, gluten free, cookie mug cakes, all in addition to your basic delicious dessert mug cakes. If you like fresh baked goods and don't have much time, this book is for you!

They aren't perfect, but they are very convenient.

For using only handful of ingredients (quite literally) and taking just a few minutes to make, these cakes are pretty good. I wouldn't say they were the best cakes, but they are just so convenient and I haven't had a bad one yet.

They tend to come out a little rubbery as compared to other cake, but are still very tasty. They also don't look like the photos and may not be appealing on their own, but some whip cream hides that well. I wouldn't plan on serving them at a dinner party unless you find a solution to the rubbery problem (different flour?) and you will spend more time topping one than making one. But once again: very convenient and they do taste good.

My wife likes them so much she ordered the book for one of her pregnant friends who also enjoys them.

A MUST read for anyone with SIBO

If you are looking for a comprehensive guide to SIBO and I mean, you learn everything from what causes it, how to treat it and on top of that you get a great bunch of recipes, this book is the REAL DEAL. Sylvie has a great way of explaining something that seems super complicated in easy to understand terms and best of all, she has lived through it, so she's got real life experience backing it all up.

Before you waste hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars on doctors who don't believe your symptoms even exist, or antiquated treatment options that simply DO NOT work, get this ebook -- and use it as a road map to get rid of sibo! Seriously, it is a comprehensive guide to eliminating small intestine bowel overgrowth ( sibo ). It vastly covers everything from Dr. Google and MD ordered test results to every single available treatment -- most of which Sylvie has tried!

great alternative learning style

Okay so the pictures of the guy in white sneakers are super dumb- but the book IS very helpful for a beginner; It comes with small stickers to place underneath the strings to practice fingering per different color stickers numbered 1-5 indicating 1st, second, third... fingering- you get the idea; I wrote on the stickers the letter of each note so I wouldn't have to remember which colors indicated which notes; and the stickers come off clean with no residue; this is just an added bonus- b/c I initially bought this book over others- b/c it shows pictures of a players' hand with fingers on the correct frets along with the actual chart; Personally, it is much easier for me to look at a picture of someone playing the note rather than a chart with dots.And as I said the stickers make it a breeze- I don't have to look down every time I want to play a note to see if my fingers are in the right place. Also the book comes with a pic and a full length poster labeled "notes and scales" to refer to for all of the notes.I haven't really read through the book- I'm a scimmer anyway- and the first chapter is all about positioning and tuning- which I already know; But if you are a visual learner- and have had trouble in the past- get this book to start with; It's definitely learn at your own pace- and doesn't remind me of a boring text book- other authors should be as innovative;
and yes it seems he numbers the strings backwards -but to each his own I guess- and with the stickers and pictures for reference, this has not confused me.
I have been trying to learn guitar for forever- but the sheer boredom of most teaching styles has turned me off- this is straight to the point- no "hot cross buns"- and perfect for an ADD brain like mine to scim and take what information I need to build a foundation and learn my own way.

I'd like to give a 4.5...

This book takes an agressive approach to learning, with each "week" adding a lot of new concepts. I know a little bit about music, but I'm new to the guitar. For me, I like it a lot. People who don't play another instrument might find it more intimidating, I'm not sure. But then, no one is forcing you to finish a week's lessons in an actual week.

What's good: it starts you off right away playing decent music. It begins with chords and some useful theory. You're moving down the neck right away. Playing along with the CD is fun, and it forces you to keep up with the tempo.

If the book had been proofread better, I'd give it 5 stars. For example, there are places where the text has both a fret number and standard musical notation, and the fret number is wrong. The book refers you to play along with the instructional CD backing tracks, but it doesn't tell you which track number to play. It's easy enough to figure out what was meant, but a little more care would have been better.

The wall chart is nice. I haven't used the color-coded stickies on my guitar (I think they're a little silly), but maybe some people would find them useful.

Despite my little gripes, I really like the organization of the book, and it's a nice package with the CD and chart.

Still reeling from husband Matt's accidental death a year ago, food writer Maggie McElroy is flummoxed when a paternity claim is filed against Matt's estate from Beijing, where he sometimes traveled for business. Great for lovers of Chinese cuisine.

My favorite feature of this book is its incorporation of Chinese history in the story line. I was delighted to learn so much about China and Chinese cuisine--a topic of total ignorance for me. The feature that most spoiled my enjoyment of the book was the incorporation of Chinese history in the story line. Where this was done well--in short passages integrated and supportive of either character development or plot--the reading experience was enhanced with surprises that did not detract from the story. Where this facet became an information dump, I was pulled away from the story and, in some instances, bored. The author obviously loves the subject more than she cares about the reading experience.
The situation set up by the story premise could have been devleoped into a more complex story with a bit more investment in focus on the characters rather than the food. Everyone was too virtuous for this to be an interesting story. The only really flawed, interesting character was dead.

It's a wonderful experience to discover a new author, and Nicole Mones is a welcome addition to my list of favorites. I was thoroughly engaged by the characters and their conflicts, and as a foodie I loved the descriptions of traditional Chinese dishes and the stories behind them. Ms. Mones' way of describing feelings, textures and tastes captivated me. On occasion, I re-read passages just for the pleasure of her evocative prose. Definitely a 5 star read for me.

interesting topic--she is a mediocre writer with wonderful research skills so she builds a fascinating setting with great fact basis--here the high cuisine of china ( in "evening in shanghai" the story is in part the lively jazz culture of pre ww2 shanghai--similar review- great setting and research, fair minus novel ). for a foody- especially a Chinese foody -this is an in depth introduction to a remarkable subject

About the Author
Frank H. Netter was born in New York City in 1906. He studied art at the Art Students League and the National Academy of Design before entering medical school at New York University, where he received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1931. During his student years, Dr. Netter’s notebook sketches attracted the attention of the medical faculty and other physicians, allowing him to augment his income by illustrating articles and textbooks. He continued illustrating as a sideline after establishing a surgical practice in 1933, but he ultimately opted to give up his practice in favor of a full-time commitment to art. After service in the United States Army during World War II, Dr. Netter began his long collaboration with the CIBA Pharmaceutical Company (now Novartis Pharmaceuticals). This 45-year partnership resulted in the production of the extraordinary collection of medical art so familiar to physicians and other medical professionals worldwide.
Icon Learning Systems acquired the Netter Collection in July 2000 and continued to update Dr. Netter’s original paintings and to add newly commissioned paintings by artists trained in the style of Dr. Netter. In 2005, Elsevier Inc. purchased the Netter Collection and all publications from Icon Learning Systems. There are now over 50 publications featuring the art of Dr. Netter available through Elsevier Inc.
Dr. Netter’s works are among the finest examples of the use of illustration in the teaching of medical concepts. The 13-book Netter Collection of Medical Illustrations, which includes the greater part of the more than 20,000 paintings created by Dr. Netter, became and remains one of the most famous medical works ever published. The Netter Atlas of Human Anatomy, first published in 1989, presents the anatomic paintings from the Netter Collection. Now translated into 16 languages, it is the anatomy atlas of choice among medical and health professions students the world over.
The Netter illustrations are appreciated not only for their aesthetic qualities, but, more importantly, for their intellectual content. As Dr. Netter wrote in 1949 “clarification of a subject is the aim and goal of illustration. No matter how beautifully painted, how delicately and subtly rendered a subject may be, it is of little value as a medical illustration if it does not serve to make clear some medical point.” Dr. Netter’s planning, conception, point of view, and approach are what inform his paintings and what make them so intellectually valuable.
Frank H. Netter, MD, physician and artist, died in 1991.

Thrill of a read!

When I saw the reviews I was skeptical, but the stories idea captured my interest partially because it involved coeds and not a married couple.

Strangely enough, I honestly believe that if the setting was changed and it was about a husband and wife - the story wouldn't be as enjoyable. I liked it because of the dorm setting and coed relationships involved, because it felt like a fresh take on the cuckold story dynamic.

I should first explain that the books description doesn't do it justice AT ALL or explain whats really going on. Dan isn't in a battle to win or loose against Steve like it implies, Dan is battling his own mind and desire to cuckold himself with a very skeptical Emily in tow with the schools biggest douche.

Soon the role playing starts and the dialogue really shines.

I truly enjoyed this book because the characters love each other, are kinda trashy in a coed kinda way and it just felt like a fun read.

Really would love to read a sequel!
